Ko Kut Express is a large, high speed passenger ferry which can seat 140 people in air-conditioned comfort. The service runs year round between Laem Sok pier and Ao Salat in the northeast of Koh Kood. As with the other boat services, transport is provided from hotels in Trat to the pier and also from the pier on Koh Kood to your resort, is included in the 350 Baht / person ticket price.
As of 2015, the boat company took over Siriwhite Speedboat and re-branded it as Ko Kut Express Speedboat. In late 2019 the existing speedboat was replaces with a new, larger speedboat. This has a catamaran type hull for extra stability and three, 200HP 4 stroke outboard motors. This runs twice a day in each direction during the High Season.
Free transport from the pier at Ao Salat, Koh Kood to hotels on the island is included in the ticket price. So there’s no need to pay your resort to pick you up or drop you off at the pier.
The Ko Kut Express speedboat is the best option for visitors who want to maximise their time on the island. If you want to be first to arrive and the last to leave, then the speedboat is the best way to travel. It departs Laem Sok at 10am, arriving on Koh Kood around 11 to 11.30am, depending on the sea conditions and where you are staying.
The Ko Kut Express speedboat will drop you off at your resort’s pier. (The boat drops off a resorts on the west of Koh Kood as far south as Bangbao Bay. If you are staying further south, you’ll need to get your resort to pick you up from there.)
And, for the return trip, you’ll also be picked up from your resort pier at around 1pm.
For passengers staying in Trat, a shuttle service by ‘songtaew’ (local pick up truck tax ) to the pier is provided. This costs 40 Baht per person and is not included in the price of the boat ticket. You pay the driver. If you buy boat tickets from your hotel, they’ll advise you of the time. Or if you’re booking online, make sure you let the agent or boat company know the name of your hotel and they’ll arrange this for you.
Note that the Ko Kut Express speedboat sometimes departs and arrives at the smaller ‘Coral pier’, on the eastern side of the peninsula, about 5 minutes drive from the main Laem Sok pier. This is usually dependent on the weather. On calm days it will moor at the main pier, on windier days at the sheltered Coral pier.
