Passenger Boats to Koh Kood

Koh Kood is located around 45Km from the mainland and is accessible only by passenger ferry and speedboat.  There isn’t an airport on the island, although the Soneva Kiri Resort does have a private airstrip on a nearby island, for its very wealthy guests to use.

There are four passenger boat companies running regular services to Koh Kood from Laem Sok pier on the mainland. These are ‘Koh Kood Princess’ , ‘Koh Kood Express , Seudamgo and  ‘Boonsiri Ferry.   These companies all operate, large, high speed vessels. A fifth company, Superjet Ferry ran service briefly in 2019 – 20 but closed during covid and has not resumed services.

The newest, fastest boat is the Seudamgo caramaran which takes 84 passengers and can do the journey between the mainland and Koh Kood in around 40 minutes (assuming good weather). They also operate the last boat of the day to Koh Kood which is at 16:00.

The most comfortable vessel is probably the catamaran operated by Boonsiri Ferry which also offers free wi-fi onboard.  And the cheapest is the Koh Kood Princess.

The boats all depart from the ferry terminal at Laem Sok pier, Trat.

Koh Kood Express (formerly Ko Kut Express) run both a large passenger boat, a catamaran and also a speedboat service.  They took over the running of the Siriwhite speedboat, which you will see mentioned on some websites, and re-branded it at the Ko Kut Express Speedboat in 2015.  The old speedboat was replaced by a modern, triple-engined, catamaran speedboat in late 2019. From 2022 onwards they will run two large passenger ferries and one speedboat per day during high season.

As yet, there are no vehicle ferries to the island.  Which ensures the island remains far quieter than other large islands in Thailand.  However all boat companies provide secure parking for passengers arriving by car.  The boat company’s ticket offices and parking areas are all marked on the map at the bottom of this page. Parking is 50 Baht / day.

Some of the luxury resorts also run their own speedboat services for guests, so if you are staying at a 5 star hotel then it’s worth inquiring if they include the transfer when booking a room.

Laem Sok pier.  The port for boats to Koh Kood

Laem Sok is located at the very southernmost tip of a peninsula about 20 minutes drive from Trat town.  The ferry piers for Koh Chang are around 45 minutes drive away and Trat Airport is an hour away.

There’s very little else on this peninsula apart from some local hamlets; fishing and farming communities; a large area of protected mangroves and a couple of resorts.  The aging Ban Pu Resort and the far nicer, newer Analay Check In and Chill Out.  This is a new resort located a stone’s throw from the ferry pier and ideal for anyone arriving late afternoon and wanting a good value place to stay before catching the boat the next morning.

It is important to note that the boats to Koh Kood stop running mid-afternoon, even in High Season.

From November to May the last scheduled departure is the Seudamgo catamaran at 16:00.   ( In Low Season the last sailing is at 13:00 ).  If you are arriving after this time and want to get to Koh Kood the same day, the only option is a private speedboat.  However, that isn’t cheap, expect to pay around 15 – 20,000 Baht for a one way trip.

So getting to the pier the same day you want to get to Koh Kood requires either a very early start from Bangkok or having a night in Trat.  If you are coming from Koh Chang, then all you need to do , during High Season, is buy a ticket for either the Bangbao Boat or Kai Bae Hut speedboat service.  They both run daily services from 1 November until 30 April.

However, it is important to bear in mind that from May to October, there are no inter-island boat services.  So getting from Koh Chang to Koh Kood during the Low Season entails having to head back to the mainland and then to a different pier.  Which is a hassle.

Make sure you are aware of this when booking an off -season, two island holiday.

As there are only passenger boats to Koh Kood, arranging transport direct to your hotel isn’t possible.  Fortunately, when you arrive on Koh Kood, all boat services provide transport to your resort.   There is no additional charge for this as it is included in the price of your boat ticket.

Likewise, when you return from Koh Kood to the mainland, the transport from your hotel to the pier is included in the price.  The exception is with the Koh Kut Express Speedboat – which picks up from resort piers on the west coast of the island from locations including, and north of, Bangbao Bay.  This just leaves you to plan how you will get to the mainland pier.

At Laem Sok Pier

Laem Sok pier, Trat

Laem Sok pier is a very ‘no frills’ pier, just a long concrete pier stretching out into the ocean.  Fortunately, the boat companies provide comfortable waiting areas complete with toilets, coffee-shop, simple restaurants and car parks for people waiting for their boat.

This main pier is where the large passenger boats depart and arrive.  There is a separate pier, known locally as ‘Coral pier’, about 5 minutes drive away, which is often – but not always – used by speedboats from resorts and the Koh Kut Express speedboat.

Boats From Koh Chang to Koh Kood

Hopping from Koh Chang to Koh Mak and Koh Kood during the High Season is very easy.  You can use the two daily speedboat services to get from Koh Chang to the outlying islands.

The two services are run by Kai Bae Hut Speedboat and Bangbao Boat.  Ticket price is 600 Baht to Koh Mak and 900 Baht to Koh Kood.  This also includes pick up by taxi from your hotel on Koh Chang to take you to the departure point.  The boat will drop you off at your resort’s pier – or the nearest point on Koh Kood.  The furthest south they stop on Koh Kood is at the resorts in Bangbao Bay.

It takes around an hour and  a half to two hours to get from Koh Chang to Koh Kood.  This includes a brief stop on Koh Mak when some passengers will get on and off.  If you are staying at the north end of Koh Kood, for example at Baan Makok, then you’re journey will be about 20 minutes shorter than someone staying much further south on Koh Kood e.g. at Siam Beach Resort in Bangbao Bay.

    Hi guys,

I would like to take the boat from Koh Chang tot Koh Kood on the 1st of May. I’ve read that this is the first day of low season so the boats stop driving. On other websites I’ve read that boats continue driving till half May. Anyone who can help me out?

    Many thanks.

    • April 20, 2023 at 12:31 pm

The speedboats will probably stop at the end of the month but the wooden boat usually stop running some time in early May. It depends on how busy the islands are and the weather.

The only thing you can do is wait until something is announced. Probably at the end of April.

Hi , will ferry’s from koh chang to koh Kood be runnng as normal in early to mid April 23

    • March 19, 2023 at 12:51 am

Yes. The services don’t stop running until early – mid May.

    • April 16, 2023 at 8:16 am

I will be staying in Koh Kood 6-9 May and we want to take a day trip to nearby islands but I’m pregnant so I can’t go on a speedboat. Are there big boats running in May to neighbouring islands?

      • April 16, 2023 at 8:31 am

It might still be possible to do a snorkeling trip to Koh Rang on a big boat in early May. But you won’t be able to do a day trip to Koh Mak or Koh Chang. That isn’t possible by speedboat either.

    Hi guys,
are there trips from Koh Chang to Koh Kood in february and march 2023?
i know, right above the comment section are timetables and schedules but are they correct right now/this year? There was no connection on other booking websites like 1 2 go…
    many thanks

    • February 9, 2023 at 9:58 am

The timetables are correct. Boats are running daily as normal.

Remember that most transport companies in Thailand don’t take bookings online on sites like Tickets are sold through local agents and people buy then when they are here. Not online in advance.

  • December 14, 2022 at 10:49 am

Hello, I’m travelling from Koh Kood to Koh Chang on 23rd December 2022. I’m unable to book any ferry service between the islands. Is it ok if I do it once I get to Koh kood on 21st?

    • December 14, 2022 at 11:31 am

Yes, just buy tickets a day or two in advance form your hotel or any tour agent nearby

  • August 2, 2022 at 10:59 am

Are the ferry times above correct for 2023? We have a 18.30 flight from Trat in March and will be on Koh Kood – just wondering what time the ferries are so we can co-ordinate and not have too much time at the airport

    • August 2, 2022 at 11:20 am

Unfortunately you’ll end up having 4 hours or so to kill at Trat Airport.

For the past several years (before covid) the last boat off the island was the 13:00 Koh Kut Express speedboat. That hasn’t been running since covid but might start again next high season. It arrives at the mainland around 14:00.

If that isn’t running the next best option is the 12:00 Boonsiri Ferry, which will be running. That arrives around 13:15.

  • July 28, 2022 at 7:56 am

Hi, on October 26 we are going from Koh Kood to Koh Chang, but I see that there is no boat service available. Are there any possibilities to arrange this?
    Best Rose

    • July 28, 2022 at 8:21 am

Bangbao Boat usually start running their slow boat service to Koh Kood in late October. The exact start date will depend on the weather and how busy the islands are. So that might be running when you are here.

If not then you’ll need to either go back to the mainland to take a public boat or hire a speedboat privately – which is expensive. Maybe around 15,000 Baht.

    • September 30, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Hi Rose, did you manage to find more Infos? I will be on Koh Chang on 17.10.22 and I also want a boat to Koh Kut!

      • October 1, 2022 at 2:59 am

Bangbao Boat usually start running their wooden boat from Koh Chang – Koh Mak – Koh Kood in mid to late October. No date has been set yet for when it will start.

can I bring my Big Bike to Koh Kood?

    • February 18, 2021 at 12:54 am

No. There aren’t any vehicle ferries to Koh Kood. Only passenger boats.

  • November 9, 2020 at 9:36 am

Why are ferries between Koh Chang and Koh Kood so expensive?? Also Boonsiri ferry is now 1100thb

    • November 9, 2020 at 11:16 am

Boat companies set the prices. But speedboats are always more expensive than large passenger boats.

Boonsiri is still 500 Baht one way from Laem Sok to Koh Kood. The combined bus & boat from Bangkok to Koh Kood is 1,000 Baht.)
