Combined Bus and Boat Services between Thailand and Cambodia
Here’s some good news for visitors to Koh Kood, Koh Chang & Koh Mak who also plan to visit Cambodia during their holiday. From October 2023 onwards Boonsiri Ferry is running combined bus & boat services between destinations in Thailand and Cambodia.
And the plan is for additional services to Vietnam which will allow travellers to seamlessly hop between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam without the need to buy multiple tickets from multiple agents.
Tickets can now be booked online through the well known 12go.asia online ticketing system
Services aren’t limited to the islands in Trat province. It’s also possible to travel between Bangkok or Pattaya to three of the most interesting destinations in Cambodia:
Siem Reap
Siem Reap needs no introduction. It’s a city steeped in history and adorned with architectural wonders, stands as the gateway to Cambodia’s most iconic attraction – the Angkor Archaeological Park. Home to the mesmerizing Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument, Siem Reap is a treasure trove for history buffs, culture aficionados, and intrepid explorers.
The intricate temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and Ta Prohm tell the captivating tale of the Khmer Empire’s grandeur and spiritual legacy. Marvel at intricate carvings that depict ancient stories and relive the past as you traverse through the awe-inspiring stone structures hidden amid lush jungles.
Beyond the temples, Siem Reap’s bustling Old Market and Pub Street are vibrant hubs of local life, offering a taste of Cambodia’s culinary delights, traditional crafts, and bustling nightlife.
For those seeking a deeper connection, engage with the local community through responsible tourism initiatives. Take part in cooking classes, visit social enterprises, and support traditional artisans to contribute positively to the region.
Siem Reap’s unique blend of ancient wonders and contemporary charm make it an exceptional destination.
Battambang
Nestled in the heart of Cambodia, Battambang offers travelers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This town is a treasure trove of both historical and cultural riches. Its well-preserved French colonial architecture adds an old-world charm to the streets.
Battambang is also a haven for art enthusiasts. The town boasts a burgeoning art scene with numerous galleries and studios showcasing the works of talented local artists. For history buffs, the Killing Caves and Phnom Sampeau provide a somber reminder of Cambodia’s tumultuous past.
But perhaps the most captivating aspect of Battambang is its authenticity. Unlike some more tourist-saturated destinations, Battambang offers a genuine glimpse into traditional Cambodian life. Interact with friendly locals, explore vibrant markets, and savor delectable street food that mirrors the region’s unique flavors. And don’t miss a ride on the unique Bamboo Train, a local invention that offers a thrilling, albeit bumpy, ride through picturesque countryside.
Battambang’s tranquil ambiance, combined with its historical significance and artistic flair, makes it a great destination for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path Cambodian experience.
Koh Rong
If you want to know what Thai islands were like 20+ years ago then head to Koh Rong. Now is a great time to visit as the island is steadily developing but has’t yet been covered in luxury resorts and bars.
This island gem is a haven of powdery white beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery. Whether you’re a sun-seeker, an adventure enthusiast, or a nature lover, Koh Rong offers an array of experiences.
The island’s beaches are excellent, offering serene spots to bask in the sun’s warm embrace or indulge in thrilling water activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. The underwater world here is teeming with vibrant coral reefs and marine life, making it a diver’s dream come true.
If lounging on the beach isn’t your thing, take a jungle trek to a hidden waterfall or to one of the vantage points offering panoramic views of the island’s beauty.
What sets Koh Rong apart is its raw, unspoiled nature. The island has still managed to retain a rustic charm that captivates visitors seeking an uncommercialized slice of paradise. From beachfront bungalows to simple guesthouses, accommodation options cater to various budgets without compromising on the island’s natural splendor.
